public art
in collaboration with Coco Guzmán
TRANS* CAMP – appunti spaziali per un’euforia di genere is a public space installation designed and created with Coco Riot, an artist who lives and works in Madrid, invited by CHEAP to work for FUORI!. The work, which originated in connection with the Lucciole project by Bluemotion / Giorgina Pi, is developed through the creation of an “imaginative camping”, physically acting out a “transsexualisation of public space” in a place crossed by a joyful, choral and haunting reflection.
TRANS* CAMP – appunti spaziali per un’euforia di genere is a site that one may traverse, transform and be transformed by, that one may trans-generate by our presence in dissidence. Also, Trans* as in transgender, transsexual, transvestite, and all the other people in motion and fluctuation that inhabit the asterisk *. The Trans* Camp is a roulotte, some standing drawings, weird matter stuff, bodies that meet and people who share in a process of transgenderizing the public space, a starting point to take over every single corner of Bolonia. We have always been here and we will always be. At the camp we welcome you to touch, to feel, to read, to ask, to change, to have your worldview explode from a binary to a galaxy of genders, of shapes, of worlds. We are euphoric and enraged, we are wise and fun, we are ready. We are camping. And this is just the beginning.
bio
CHEAP street poster art is a public art project, a collective, a non-objective gaze. Born in Bologna in 2013 from the creative alliance of six women, CHEAP curates and realises paper-based public art interventions: paste-up (which uses paper and glue) is the technique they explore, a manifesto dedicated to the ephemeral and the research of the contemporary as temporary. CHEAP operates a reappropriation of public spaces by infesting the walls with posters, redefining new contemporary visual languages, and generating unexpected dialogues with those crossing the urban environment.
Coco Guzman is a trans* queer artist using expanded drawing to investigate experiences of dissidence and pride. Coco draws on walls, on fabric, on paper, they draw animations, comics, gigantic posters, magazine illustrations, murals, always with fun and large spoons of curiosity. Through an interdisciplinary approach Coco’s work invites humor, trans* visual culture references, queer imaginaries and haunting presences to question who they are, the society they live in, and more importantly, to acknowledge the diversity of worlds we create everyday.
