talk
in dialogue with Donatella Allegro, Agnese Cornelio, Eva Geatti, Samara Hersch, Ngawang Luding, Marco Martinelli, Giulia Quadrelli, with young participants from the metropolitan city of Bologna
What did it mean for girls and boys to go on stage? And, before that, through a workshop, defining their point of view on the world, the things they urgently want to say and do, the dialogue with a dramaturgical text and its writing, the usefulness of rehearsals and the magic of the debut, in short, everything that precedes and builds the performance?
FUORI! is not meant to be a school or an acting opportunity for beginners, but a political act of public visibility, recognition and restitution of the city to adolescents, after the pandemic hiding. But we know that intentions have to face different perceptions, intertwine the complexities of individual lives, encounter organisational obstacles and setbacks, as well as unexpected discoveries.
We feel the urgency to understand what this experience meant from the perspective of the teenagers who participated in the workshops and performances. And we do so – once again – in the public space of a square, with the honesty of dialogue, because we imagine that the full understanding of the experience is not a conversation to be reported but to construct, with a composition of voices, sharing experiences, fears and desires, revealing what all that had been imagined with the best intentions actually became. Once again, even in the public space usually dominated by adults, we try to subvert the situation and – as adults – we listen and take notes, because we need to understand what the world is like upside down.
